Green Factory showcases eco-friendly automobile production
Prachin Buri factory soon to start production with most eco-friendly technologies
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, 16 June 2015 —— Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. received the “Green Label” for all Honda models manufactured in Thailand from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute and Thailand Environment Institute. The company also hosted a factory tour to showcase eco-friendly manufacturing processes and efficient energy management at its Green Factory, reaffirming Honda’s global environmental slogan of “Blue Skies for Our Children”.
The twelve models of Honda cars manufactured in Thailand which are Brio, Brio Amaze, Jazz, City, City CNG, Civic, Civic Hybrid, Mobilio, Accord, Accord Hybrid, HR-V, and CR-V certify the Green Label. This could be assured that these cars have passed environmental regulations that encompass production process, use, and disposal as well as efficiency of resources management. At present, Honda is the one and only automotive manufacturer who carry the Green Label. In addition, these cars have been produced under industry standards in Honda Factory, which has achieved ISO 9001: 2008 certification for quality management systems and ISO 14001 certification for environmental management systems.
Secretary-General of Thai Industrial Standards Institute, Hathai Uthai said, “Congratulations to Honda on the occasion that all Thai-manufactured Honda models are granted the Green Label. Honda is among private organisations who is aware of environmental issues and dedicate to develop environmental friendly products with sustainability in every process with a sense of social responsibility. This Honda plant is truly a green factory. The Thai Industrial Standards Institute appreciates Honda’s commitment and earnest effort to maintain manufacturing quality under our industrial standards and conserve the environment sustainably.”
Chief Operating Officer of Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Pitak Pruittisarikorn recounted, “Back in 2010, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. in Japan announced Vision 2020 to creating products with speed, affordability and low CO2. An environmental target was set to reduce CO2 emission from all our product types by 30%, including automobiles, motorcycles, and power products. Honda commits to research and develop automobile technologies that ensure both quality and eco-friendliness. We also explore innovative measures to reduce CO2 emission in order to pass on a sustainable society where the next generation can enjoy life, in accordance with Honda’s global environmental slogan of “Blue Skies for Our Children”.
“All Honda associates in our factory always take environmental conservation as a prioritised area of our operation. All work processes have been scrutinised, and the data and information collected have been analysed to discover new approaches, technologies and equipment that will minimise environmental impact with an aim to make Honda’s plant a genuinely Green Factory. One of the fundamental target of reducing environmental impacts from all production processes is to apply the 3 R’s principle of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in all our production activities and in compliance with the Green Factory Policy that focuses on energy saving, waste reduction, and co-existence with local communities,” Pitak explained.
The Green Factory Policy consists of five principles:
1) CO2 Reduction
2) Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Reduction
3) Water Saving
4) Waste Reduction
5) Co-exist with Local Communities
At present, this Honda Green Factory has an emission level of 410 Kg-CO2 per one car produced. In 2017, the next two years from now, the company is targeting at a lower emission level of 392 Kg-CO2/car. By year 2020, the figures will be reduced to 327 Kg-CO2/car. Each year, it can reduce an emission of 3,300 ton-CO2 by average or an equivalent to CO2 absorption by living trees in an area of 6,679 rai.
In addition to the Green Factory at Rojana Industrial Park in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Honda’s second automobile factory at Rojana Industrial Park in Prachin Buri has been designed with the concept of “producing the world’s cleanest products at the world’s cleanest plant”.
The new factory will be applied technologies and the most efficient production systems being used at Yorii Plant in Japan, which is regarded as Honda’s archetypical automobile plant. It will be the next Green Factory which will be one of Honda’s people-friendly and environmentally-responsible automobile plants. At present, the construction has already progressed beyond 80%. This new factory is scheduled to start running with selective production lines for automobile parts and engines in October 2015. It will become fully operational in March 2016.
