More Thai pros announced for the Thailand Classic while local hero, Thongchai Jaidee is ready to be tournament’s ambassador

BANGKOK —— Thongchai Jaidee is gearing up for his duties as the nation’s Thailand Classic ambassador with the aim of seeing local Thai golfers secure a chance to win this prestigious European Tour event in their homeland. In the meantime, the promoter has announced the names of the world’s leading golfers who will take part in the tournament with an additional 12 spots made available for local golfers from the Professional Golf Association of Thailand (PGAT) for this upcoming event to be staged at the Black Mountain Golf Club, Hua Hin from 12 to 15 February.


The much-anticipated return of a European Tour event in Thailand after eight years excites the local golf fans. More updates on the progression of the tournament’s preparation and the entry lists are as follows. Thailand’s world no. 39, Thongchai Jaidee, 45, is officially announced as the tournament’s ambassador to represent his home country in welcoming the world’s players to showcase their swings to win Thailand golf’s biggest prize money and the specially designed “Pride of Thailand” trophy, alongside the accumulation of points for the 2015 “Race to Dubai series”.


Thongchai Jaidee, Asia’s captain against Europe in the 2014 Eurasia, was recently awarded the “Outstanding Professional Athlete” award in the 2014 National Sports Day held in December. He stated, “I am honoured and very pleased to be a representative of the Thai people to welcome the world’s golfers to Thailand.  I am also glad to see that this European Tour co-sanctioned event is taking place in Thailand once again. This event can surely help develop local golfers’ performances in the international arena. Besides, Thailand’s tourism will be promoted through this golf tournament as well. I will do my best as a proud player of the host country.”


“My last season was considered the best season for me so far. I am most satisfied with my form over the past 12 months. As my goal is moving up higher, this year, I hope that I can do better than last year. As this European Tour event is staged in Thailand, it provides opportunities for local golfers to develop their golf skills as well as claim points for the Race to Dubai series. More importantly, I hope to see a Thai golfer win this prestigious tournament in our homeland,” Thongchai finished off by saying.


Aside from the official announcement regarding the tournament ambassador, the local Thai stars and pros that will be competing in the event are Thaworn Wiratchant, Prayad Marksaeng, Prom Meesawat, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Chapchai Nirat and Thanyakorn


Khrongpha, joined by 14 golfers from the Professional Golf Association of Thailand that includes Udorn Duangdecha, Itthipat Buranatanyarat, Porameth Sonthirati, Somchai Pongpaew, Poosit Supupramai, Jakraphan Premsirigorn, Sorrachat Hansabhiban, Pachara Khongwatmai, Paopong Pintprayong, Pongpak Ratchataporn and Supakrit Rattanakampol, Jani Pettila, Phubordee Sirisilpa and Putipong Phromsorn.


These local stars will be contesting with world-class golfers such as the leading European players, which include the fan-favorite Thomas Bjorn, 43, who has won 15 times on the European Tour and Spanish Miguel Angel Jimenez, who has won 21 times on the European Tour, including the Open de Espana in last May.  Japanese Hiroshi Iwata and many other star players from both the European and Asian tours are marching towards the Classic.

The Thailand Classic is a European Tour and Asian Tour co-sanctioned event, promoted by MUSE Group Bangkok and Asia Joint Panorama Public Company Limited (AJP) brining a European Tour event back to Thailand after eight years, which was last seen in 2007 in Phuket. The Thailand Classic has been listed as one of the 48 tournaments in the 2015 Race to Dubai series and Thailand is honoured to be one of the 26 countries to stage one of the events, where the world’s best golfers fight to accumulate points to become Europe’s No. 1 golfer.


The Black Mountain Golf course is in beautiful condition and has earned widespread acclaim amongst golfers since it opened in 2007, winning a number of international awards.  It has already hosted three Asian Tour tournaments and numerous other events and has earned considerable praise from golfers around the world.
