BANGKOK, 5 November 2014 —— Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Limited presents two new products for the commercial vehicle segment in Bus & Truck 2014 on 6-8 November 2014 at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC).

In gearing up for the ASEAN Economic community (AEC) in 2015, Mercedes-Benz’s latest lineup in vehicles caters to specific purposes – the new OC500RF1836 bus chassis and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van come with class-leading innovation and safety to serve the varied needs of business operators and entrepreneurs.

The OC 500 RF 1836 bus chassis 

The 2 axle OC 500 RF 1836 is a 12 metre bus chassis imported from Spain that can be used to build buses at the maximum width of 2.55 metre and the maximum body length of this model is at 12.0 metre. This new bus chassis uses a powerful and efficient turbo engine with intercooler coded OM457LA. The output of this model is at 11,967 cc with engine power at 260 kw (or 354 HP) at 2,000 rpm and engine torque at 1,600 Nm at 1,100 rpm. This model has equipped with “ZF Ecolife”  automatic transmission, a trusted bus transmission technology from Germany that is well-known worldwide, with 6 forward speed and 1 reverse speed. The automatic transmission is controlled with 6 switch buttons in order to smooth the driving operation both uphill and downhill and saving in fuel consumption rate up to five per cent. The combination of this cutting-edge transmission technology and the bus chassis that is controlled and managed by Telligent® Engine Management System is resulted in fuel injection precision based on the use of unit pump system, higher torque in lower engine speed, and the extension of the engine’s endurance.

The major points of this chassis are safety features which completely equipped on this model. Highlights include all round disc brakes with electronic braking system (EBS) and anti-lock braking system (ABS), anti-skid system (ASR), and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP®). All safety systems are electronically controlled and the breaking system is also work in sync with intarder of the ZF Ecolife’s automatic transmission set to ensure a quick and reliable breaking power, with a shorter breaking distance than the conventional system. Furthermore, a set of heat sensor are preinstalled in the engine room as a part of Fire Detection System. The system, certified under European standard, will warn the driver on the dashboard if the engine is overheating. For passengers, the use of independent suspension on the front axle will ensure a pleasing experience along the way. Rear axle,  the most important part of this new bus chassis, is very strong to ensure long-lasting usage, superior driving experience and maximum braking power. The brand-new chassis is designed to withstand maximum weight at 12.6 tonnes. For a hassle-free ventilation system, the chassis is preinstalled with a compressor which is installed on top of the engine to reduce vibration and leaked noise in the cabin.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter:  a premium large van for commercial users

Truly modern, agile, and full-featured, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a new commercial van that the driver can drive it like a car. The ultimate driving pleasure is the result of a 2,987 cc OM 642 CDI V 6 diesel turbo engine and intercooler. The top output is at 140 kW (190 hp) at 3,800 rpm and the highest torque is at 440 Nm at 1,600-2,600 rpm. This van offers smoother and more precise gear shifting with 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission set. In fuel efficiency, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter’s average fuel consumption ranges between 9.70 – 10.10 km/l and the van is also certified under Euro 5 European emission standards. In Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, new assistance systems are installed to ensure safety on the road namely Crosswind Assist, Highbeam Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and a new version of Adaptive ESP® Electronic Stability Programme – the 9i version – which increase braking power in critical situation. Two new functions are also presented in this version of Adaptive ESP® including Brake Disc Wipe, a function that helps clearing dirt and fluid out of brake discs, and Electronic Brake Prefill, a function that control brake pads.

Visually, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter also makes a clear-cut and striking impression on design. Extra flexibility in designing is also available for commercial use. For example, wider and taller body can be made for logistic operation moreover the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter can also be met to various customer requirements such as broadcasting, catering delivery, mobile home, or even an ambulance.  And to match with extensive demands of business operators, a partition between driver’s room and passenger’s room is installed as an option for convenience.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is completely redesigned in order to keep with the current Mercedes-Benz design line. The new bonnet is higher, resulting in improved protection for pedestrians, and the bumper features a more pronounced shape. The headlamps feature new and outstanding daytime lights for improvement in drivers’ vision. From the rear, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, moreover, is still recognisable from its two-compartment tail lights. Similar to personal vehicles, the indisputably exemplary interior has been upgraded even further for both driver’s and passengers’ comfort.

In accordance with ergonomics, new seat upholstery and a new cover is provided for enhanced comfort. All other switches or equipment are placed in the cabin with a user-friendly approach. The multifunction steering wheel, with a thick rim for better grip, ensures that the driver does not have to leave one of their hands to activate (or deactivate) a tool or a function. With the new MB Audio 10 radio, CD player Bluetooth, left-side electric sliding door and electric step controlled by electrical system that provide the comfortable when get on and off the vehicle and these capability have only  found its way into Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
