RAYONG, Thailand, 10 October 2014 —- General Motors Thailand’s product engineering team will be donating 10 Chevrolet vehicles to universities and technical colleges in Thailand. The donation is in-line with the automaker’s continued efforts to support advanced technical education, particularly in the field of automotive engineering and technology.
The 10 vehicles include three Captivas, two Trailblazers, two Colorados, a Sonic, Cruze and Aveo. Delivery of the vehicles will be executed in stages throughout October 2014. The institutions and universities that will benefit from Chevrolet’s donation are those from which current employees have graduated. They include Chaiyaphum Technical College, Khon Kaen Industrial and Community Education College, Baan Khai Technical College Rayong, Saraburi Technical College, Pattani Industrial & Community Education College, Ubon Rachathani Technical College, Udon Thani Technical College and three of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology campuses in Lad Krabang, North Bangkok and Thonburi.
“With modern and high-tech vehicles, students in automotive mechanics, engineering and manufacturing can learn about and keep up with automotive technologies and trends for today and tomorrow. Thailand needs more engineers and more technical specialists in the auto industry, and GM is committed to support and fuel that growth in Thailand,” said Chan Joo Kim, General Director of Product Engineering of General Motors Thailand & ASEAN, during a visit by the universities’ deans to GM’s facility at Rayong.
“Education continues to be one of GM’s four pillars of Corporate Social Responsibility. It is critical to the development of automotive technology,” said Somnuek Ngamtrakulchol, Vice President of Human Resources for General Motors Thailand & ASEAN.
“This programme shows our continued commitment to the growth and development of education in Thailand.”
The deans were later taken on a tour of the facility where they were shown GM’s manufacturing and assembly processes, including GM’s Built-in-Quality principle. Donations such as these are in-line with GM’s and Chevrolet’s continued efforts to give back to the communities. Its other campaigns to support education include the ASEP (Automotive Service Educational Programme) and nationwide school and library donations initiatives.
