BANGKOK, 25 September 2014 –— Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd., announced its sponsorship of motor sport activities in the spirit of Honda’s “The Power of Dreams” to create powerful vehicles and in order to provide fun and exciting motor sport events. Recently, Honda has supported the Chang International Circuit, Thailand’s biggest and newest circuit. Honda also invited Thai people to experience the “Buriram United Super GT Race”, the first race on this circuit and the first world-class road race in Thailand. The Honda NSX CONCEPT-GT and Honda CR-Z will join this race on 4-5 October 2014.
Chief Operating Officer of Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Pitak Pruittisarikorn stated that Honda is an organisation that has grown by taking on challenges including challenges in the motor sport racing circuit. This is a crucial activity that boosts Honda’s capability in continually creating advanced driving technologies and extending those technologies for developing mass-production automobiles. In the 2015 season, Honda is ready to participate in F1 again, demonstrating Honda’s intention to conquer challenges in all race categories.
In Thailand, Honda Automobile and Motorcycle on behalf of the Honda Group of Companies is a major sponsor of the Chang International Circuit, which is the first racing circuit in Thailand certified as FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A. This track welcomes the “Buriram United Super GT Race” as its first race.
The Super GT Race is the most famous grand touring car racing event in Japan and Asia. All competing teams must use modified standard automobiles, which have been certified under the racing regulations of the Japan Automobile Federation and compete on several racing circuits around Japan. Each year there will also be one extra race outside Japan. This season is the first time that Super GT is being held in Thailand at the “Buriram United Super GT Race”, which is the 7th race of 2014. There will be seven teams using Honda’s racing cars at this event. Five of them use the Honda NSX CONCEPT-GT to compete in the GT500 class including Autobacs Racing Aguri, Keihin Real Racing, Weider Modulo Dome Racing, Epson Nakajima Racing and Kunimitsu. The car is Honda’s next-generation super sport model and it has a mid-mounted 2.0-litre inline direct-injection 4-cylinder turbo-charged engine and is equipped with a hybrid racing system. Two other teams use the Honda CR-Z and compete in the GT300 class include Mugen and Autobacs Racing Aguri.
In addition, Honda will hold many special activities such as the Honda-One-Make Race competition for the Honda City, Jazz, and Brio (30 cars) that will show their performance to win prizes with an overall value of THBaht376,000,-. Further, the Honda City, Jazz, Accord Hybrid, CR-Z, and the latest Mobilio, as well as big bike motorcycles such as the CBR1000RR and other models will be displayed at the motor show booth from 2 to 5 October 2014. Honda Collection merchandise will also be available for sale at the booth.
